To the East of Scottsdale lies the town of Fountain Hills. The town is tucked into the McDowell Mountains and sits at an elevation of several hundred feet above most of the Phoenix area. The air is crisp and has slightly cooler temperatures than most areas of the Valley of the Sun.
The town draws is name from the world's tallest man made fountain on a lake near the town's center. This fountain shoots water 560 feet int the air, creating a geyser five feet taller than the Washington Monument.
The other part of the town's name "hills" comes from the fact that the town is in an area of many hills that have fingers similar to fjords jutting out over its many valleys. Upon these hills sit many homes that have vistas many miles in length.
Fountain Hills offers many golf courses and hiking and biking trails for adventurous outdoor enthusiasts. It is one of my favorite towns to visit to spend leisurely afternoons.
Fountain Hills has two annual festivals that are attended by both local residents and visitors. It also boasts one of the largest parks in Maricopa County, the McDowell Mountain Regional Park that boasts hiking, camping and sightseeing for all.
Once you come to Fountain Hills you will marvel at its many custom homes that sit atop jutting hillsides and the valleys below. Its many homes have incredible views of the far off mountains such as such as Four Peaks and the Superstition Mountains as Fountain Hills own Red Rock Mountain. Its close proximity to Scottsdale have a special appeal to those who enjoy a quiet life style but are close enough to the action of Scottsdale and neighboring Phoenix
